Strong series production reinforced in May

09:30 / 9 June 2021 SinterCast Press release

  • 3.2 million Engine Equivalents in May; more than 95% of pre-Covid volume
  • Third consecutive month above three million Engine Equivalent benchmark

[Stockholm, 9 June 2021] – Annualised series production in May finished at 3.2 million Engine Equivalents, corresponding to more than 95% of the full-year pre-Covid production level of 3.3 million Engine Equivalents. The strong May production provided the third consecutive month above the three million Engine Equivalent benchmark, reinforcing the return to the three million threshold as the new normal for SinterCast.

One year ago, April and May 2020 marked the low-point in the Covid cycle, with average annualised series production falling to 1.31 million Engine Equivalents. This year, the April-May average amounted to 3.15 million Engine Equivalents, positioning SinterCast for four strong quarters in 2021.

“With robust consumer demand, improving vaccination programmes and successful social distancing work routines in the manufacturing sector, the strong series production over the past three months shows that the Covid impact is largely behind us. Although the industry is still challenged by semiconductor shortages that have caused vehicle production stoppages on some of our high-volume programmes, the underlying demand has pushed our series production back to pre-Covid levels” said Dr Steve Dawson, President & CEO. “Throughout the industry, everybody is producing as much as they can. In our largest end-user market in North America, passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle sales are near all-time highs while vehicle stock levels are near all-time lows. For the foreseeable future, our series production is poised to benefit from the parallel need to satisfy the pent-up demand while rebuilding stock levels.”
