SEMCON: New phase in collaboration with technology company Yeti Move

13:00 / 15 December 2021 Semcon Press release

Yeti Move AS, which is currently developing a software platform for autonomous snow removal vehicles for airports, is ready to upscale its activities to target new industries and markets. As its operations now enter a new phase, its collaboration with Semcon is changing focus. Semcon will continue to be an important partner for Yeti Move in the development of autonomous solutions, but is divesting its share in the company to Husqvarna.

Since its start in 2015, Yeti Move AS has worked to develop a system to control autonomous vehicles for snow removal at airports. The project was among the first in the world in which large machines were adapted to autonomously keep airport runways clear from snow. The joint venture company was then owned by Semcon and Øveraasen, where Øveraasen contributed its extensive experience and profound technical knowledge of snow removal equipment and Semcon provided expertise in complex real-time systems and autonomous technology. Since 2018, autonomous snow removal vehicles have been tested at Oslo Airport in collaboration with the Norwegian airport operator Avinor and more vehicles will begin operation over the next few years. Yeti Move and Øveraasen also supply autonomous snowploughs to Swedavia, which owns and operates airports in Sweden.

Husqvarna became co-owner in 2019 and this partnership created the opportunity to upscale and industrialise the autonomous solution for new uses. Substantial investments will be required to expand the offering to new industries and markets, and as activity now ramps up, the collaboration with Semcon is also changing focus. Semcon will continue to serve as a strategic development partner for Yeti Move, but is divesting its 33.2 per cent share in the company to Husqvarna.

"We are proud that our expertise in autonomous technology and complex real-time systems has helped Yeti Move to become the business it is today. We look forward to continued positive and long-term cooperation where we can develop cutting-edge technology," says Hans Peter Havdal, General Manager Norway at Semcon.

Semcon does not expect the divestment to have any material financial impact on the Group.
